SALON ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE COURSE
BASIC INFO:
DURATION: 8 weeks | Daily classes from 08h00 to 15h45.
LOCATION: Wellington & Paarl
REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 9
- Positive attitude and love to work with people in the beauty environment.
- Basic language skills: speak, write, read and understand English and Afrikaans
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION: English and Afrikaans (where necessary)
Note from the facilitator
Join us for this comprehensive course in becoming a salon assistant. Students receive their training through practical experience in the salon. Students that successfully complete the course are able to work as a salon assistant. They can also generate an income by starting their own hairdressing salon on a small scale.

Fee includes: In-service training and a Certificate
Dress code: Casual but neat. The uniform is only to be worn during in-service training hours.
Absenteeism: A doctor’s certificate is needed if a student is absent for more than 3 days.
Accommodation: Accommodation and travelling must be arranged by student.
WEEK 1: LIFE SKILLS
Personal development, Responsibilities, Communication and Conflict Management, Problem Solving, Effective Time Management, Study Methods, Job Application, CV’s and interviews
WEEK 2: HOUSE MANAGEMENT
Personal Hygiene and Health, Organising the Workplace, Kitchen Skills, Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Safety in the Workplace.
WEEK 3 – 8: THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS ARE COVERED DURING THE COURSE
Assisting the hairdresser, Salon etiquette, Telephone manner and etiquette, Customer Service, Administration and taking stock, Prepping of salon products
PRACTICAL TRAINING & PRACTICAL ASSESSMENTS
Assessment takes place throughout the course and it is expected of students to successfully pass a practical and theoretical assessment during the last week of the course. All course materials are provided.
