Wamakers offers a variety of courses. We offer three certificate courses that run for eight consecutive weeks and a number of short courses that only run for a couple of days. Courses take place at the Centre in Wellington from 8:00 - 16:00, Monday to Friday. Courses are presented in Afrikaans three times a year and in English once a year.

All Certificate Course students are to complete the Basic Home Management Course of 2 weeks.

  • Basic Home Management

During the first week of the course attention is given to personal refinement such as: A positive self image, hygiene, etiquette, contracts and loans, marriage, HIV/AIDS, alcohol and drug abuse, the influence of ponography on the community, study and learning skills development, how to draw up a CV, how to conduct themselves during a job interview, etc.

During the second week attention is given to general house management such as:  Washing and ironing, removal of stains, food preparation and garnishing, how to develop and maintain vegetable and herb gardens;  flower arrangements, wine etiquette, etc.


 After completion of the Basic Home Management Course select one of the following:

  • Frail Care

To continue training for a further 6 weeks in a course that prepares students for employment as frail care assistants within an institution, or as nurse-aids in a private home or in the community, or

  • Child Care

To continue for a further 6 weeks in a course that prepares students for employment as day care mothers, or as assistants in creches and other pre-school centres, or as a housekeeper with this additional qualification as a child carer, or

  • Hairdressing Salon Assistant

To continue training for a further 6 weeks at a professional hairsalon that prepares students for employment as Haidressing Salon Assistants, or

  • Cooking Course

This 10-day course consists of theory as well as practical modules.  A Recipe book is provided.  No written examination is required.

Fee includes: Lectures, Handbooks, Certificate and Certificate Ceremony.

Dress code: Casual but neat. The uniform is only to be worn during in-service training hours. 

Absenteeism: A doctor's certificate is needed if a student is absent for more than 3 days.

In-service Training: It will be expected of students to complete the given amount of hours at an approved institution.

Accommodation: Accommodation must be arranged by student.
